Profile

Paul started his working life as a chemist, a skill set which is invaluable when dealing with COSHH issues.  He began to analyse samples from occupational hygienists and the more he found out about their work, the more appealing it became.  Paul was given the opportunity to retrain as an occupational hygienist in 1986 (before COSHH took effect!), was awarded his Certificate of Operational Competence in Comprehensive Occupational Hygiene in 1989 and has been helping clients with COSHH, lead and noise issues, for example, ever since.

While employed as a consultant occupational hygienist, Paul was given the opportunity to widen his skill set by taking the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health and, subsequently, the NEBOSH Diploma.  As a result, he was able to help clients with more general safety advice while continuing to work as an occupational hygienist.

In 1999, Paul became self-employed and provides a range of services in occupational hygiene, safety and health.

Paul has been a Registered Occupational Hygienist and Licentiate of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene (formerly the Institute of Occupational Hygienists and the British Institute of Occupational Hygiene) since 1990.  As a safety advisor, he has been a Registered Safety Practitioner since 1999 and has been a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health since the chartered membership was introduced in 2005.  Maintaining both levels of professional competence requires participation in continuing professional development schemes to ensure that his knowledge is up-to-date.
